| Welcome. |
| The Furca Book Gallery is an online resource of artistic “books” found where prairies meet peaks in Laramie, Wyoming, USA. |
What’s
a furca?
We get our name from
springtails, or
primitive
insects of the order Collembola, that spontaneously jump away when
threatened
using an abdominal appendage called a furca, or furcula.
Springtails are minute insects in leaf
litter, on pond surfaces, and within rotting fungi and wood. Usually
unnoticed,
springtails are important species in nature’s recycling and
redistribution-
called decomposition.
Our
philosophy:
Our artists and
writers use mixed-media,
incorporating recycled materials, in hand-crafted poetry and visual
artistic “books”. We put “books” in quotes to note their unique
nature, much like the mode of a springtail’s escape mechanism.
